Vasanth began his career as a journalist and short story writer, before he began working as an assistant director to K. Balachander on 18 films including Sindhu Bhairavi and Punnagai Mannan. He made his first independent film in 1990, the critically acclaimed film Keladi Kanmani, which starred noted playback singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam and enjoyed a 285-days-run at theatres. He next directed Nee Pathi Naan Pathi, titled after a song from his previous film, which focussed on an unwed mother's issue. The film features the song "Nivedha", becoming noted for its visualization and its lyrics consisting of a single word. His third directorial was the thriller Aasai (1995), which became a trendsetter and high financial success that ran for more than 200 days. Produced by Mani Ratnam, the film marked the first major commercial success and breakthrough for Ajith Kumar, who went on to become a leading actor of Tamil cinema, as well as the feature film debut of lead actress Suvalakshmi, while Vasanth received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Director.

In 1997, Vasanth's next project, Nerrukku Ner released. Also produced by Maniratnam, the film introduced actor Sivakumar's eldest son Suriya, who played a leading role alongside Vijay and Simran. Vasanth's subsequent project Poovellam Kettuppar (1999), also starred Suriya, pairing for the first time with Jyothika, who would later become his wife. The film is especially known as being composer Yuvan Shankar Raja's first major musical success. The following year, two of his directorial released, Appu and Rhythm. The former was appreciated for Prakash Raj's performance as a eunuch, whilst the latter is considered a classic, mainly for its theme and realism by critics and public. Rhythm told the tale of two individuals who lose their life partners in the same accident and overcome their sorrow to start a new relationship. The film's soundtrack, scored by A. R. Rahman consists of five songs, each depicting one of the five elements. Vasanth had picked Rhythm to be the film "closest to heart". Hey! Nee Romba Azhaga Irukke (2002) was his following project, with its major attraction being the first ensemble soundtrack in Indian cinema, featuring five songs, composed by five debutant music directors.[11] In 2007, he made the thriller film Satham Podathey (2007), which was critically acclaimed and a blockbuster at the box office, while fetching him a Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Storywriter. Currently he is working on the scriptment for his next venture, titled Nadai Udai Bhavanai, while he has also announced the launch of another film, titled Moondru Paer, Moondru Kadhal.

During his sabbaticals from filmmaking, Vasanth has worked on several ad films, short films and documentaries as well. The short films, Thakkayin Methu Naanku Kangal, for which he won the National Film Award for Best Short Fiction Film at the 2005 ceremony, and the critically acclaimed Visaranai Commission, based on Sakithya Academy prize-winning novel by Sa. Kandhasami, are the other notable works in his career. He has directed more than 40 advertising films for multinational brands and co-directed the Vijay TV extravaganza Netru, Indru, Naalai along with his mentor Mani Ratnam. She continued with her singing talent until her cousin Asha Bhosle recommended her name to the legendary Dev Anand, and this thus resulted Padmini's debut in acting as a child artist in 1975 release 'Ishq Ishq Ishq'. And as the film succeeded so did Kolhapure's fortune with back-to-back offers to act as a child artist in flicks like 'Zindagi', 'Saajan Bin Suhagan' and 'Dream Girl'. All was going pretty well with this child until a golden opportunity came by her feet, back then the star maker famous Raj Kapoor offered her to play a child character in his 1977 release 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram'. Padmini's performance here was commendable and grabbed a lot of attention. The talent was not wasted and it appeared so when she was served to play a pivotal role in 1980 release 'Insaaf Ka Tarazu'. She proved her unique charisma by essaying a controversial character of a role of a rape victim, and was better appreciated for the same. Soon Padmini became the youngest actress in the industry who started acting at a small age of 15.

No sooner Padmini was on a spree to grab all the limelight with her marvels in films like 'Prem Rog', 'Mazdoor', 'Souten', 'Woh Saat Din', 'Rahi Badal Gaye', 'Insaaf Main Karoonga', 'Anubhav' and 'Swarg Se Sunder Desh Hamara'. Apart from acting, she also lend her voice in films like 'Vidhaata', 'Sadak Chhap' and 'Hum Intezaar Karenge', which kept her rooted to singing.

This was her time and she proved it to the world. However, being in the industry, she was brushed by a controversy when she kissed Prince Charles on his visit to India. Nevertheless, resting the past of controversy behind the actress kept on working and was later seen in 'Aisa Pyaar Kahan' released in 1986. The film proved to do a good business and added happiness in her life. But the happiness was not limited to the success, it was the film where she met her partner Pradeep Sharma, the producer of the film. She later got married to Pradeep and still kept on acting. Her list of films then got added by 'Kirayadar', 'Pyar Ke Kabil' and 'Dana Paani'. But soon after this Padmini and Pradeep were blessed with a baby boy 'Priyank'. The newly motherhood became a priority for the star which lead her to take a break from acting.

But as the instinct has, Padmini was unable to keep herself aloof from her first love, acting and she decided her comeback in the industry. It was rather a unique step as the star chose another medium to re-enter, Padmini opted for a regional film rather than a Bollywood flick.

In 2003, Padmini was back with a bang in Marathi film 'Chimani Pakhare' which went on to become a huge success. Next up came 'Manthan', again a Marathi film, which repeated her success. However, the actress appeared in Hindi films too like 'Eight', 'Bolo Raam' and 'Karmayogi', but they all disappointed the talented beauty. Padmini Kolhapure's recent release was the Shahid Kapoor starrer 'Phata Poster Nikhla Hero', in which she essayed the role of Shahid's mother.

Along with her sibling Shivangi roped in her strings in B-Town credited by Shakti Kapoor and now Shraddha Kapoor. Padmini also has another sibling in the Industry, her younger sister Tejaswini Kolhapure, who is a model and actress.

She has acted in over 200 movies in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

Radha hails from Kallara in Thiruvananthapuram District in Kerala. Radha Nair and her husband R.S Nair, son Vignesh Nair, daughters Thulasi Nair and daughter Karthika Nair have settled in Mumbai. For the past 20 years they have owned a chain of restaurants in Mumbai and two hotels called UDS in Kovalam at Kerala, which have won the best coastal beach resort award, they also own a restaurant in the UK named "Rock and Role Kitchen"(RRK). Her sister Ambika is also an actress. Her daughter Karthika Nair started her career as an actress with the Telugu film Josh and went on to do Makaramanju and Ko.

Radha was spotted by director Bharathiraja and was cast as a teenager in Alaigal Oivathillai in 1981 opposite then newcomer Karthik.

Radha started her career with Bharathiraja's 'Alaigal Ooivathilai'. Gopurangal Saivathillai proved her acting talents. She played a powerful role as a second wife of Mohan and matched the national award winner Suhasini (who played the first wife) in this movie. Radha played a small role in Tik Tik Tik, a Kamal Haasan starrer. Tik Tik Tik played a significant role in her career. She then starred in a number of Kamal Hassan movies like Oru Kaithiyin Diary, Thoongathey Thambi Thoongathey, Kathal Parisu and Jappanil Kalyanaraman. Her close friend and mentor, actress Suhasini Maniratnam helped her in improving her make-up and took special care by voluntarily opting to hairdress Radha whenever they acted together.

Her major break came from her mentor Bharathiraja. Radha was cast a movie opposite Sivaji Ganesan. Muthal Mariyathai released in the year 1985. After Muthal Mariyathai, she got a number of challenging roles including in movies like Nyaya Tharasu.

Her sister Ambika is also a very popular actress. They acted together in films like Enkeyo Ketta Kural, Kadhal Parisu, Anna Nagar Mudhal Theru, Idhaya Kovil and Vellai Roja.

The two sisters were at the zenith of their beauty and fame when they acted in Kadhal Parisu. They put up electrifying performances that easily overshadowed even Kamal Hasan, the senior actor paired opposite to them. Ambika and Radha managed their careers very carefully, seldom directly competing in the same turf. They both used the Tamil movie industry to launch their careers, but spent only a minority of time in Tamil once their success & fame spread across the South. Ambika acted in more Kannada and Malayalam movies, quickly getting to the top-2 spots in both markets. Ambika and Radha were both very selective about taking up roles in Tamil movies once they became successful, rejecting many offers and only pairing with the top actors and directors of the time. It was very rare to see both the sisters in the same movie after their early years in Tamil. So it was indeed a dream come true for fans when Kadhal Parisu hit the screens, especially since both sisters played the roles of very glamorous and highly desirable women in the movie.

Telugu cinema

She acted in her first Telugu film with Sobhan Babu in Mr.Vijay. Her notable films in Telugu include Yamudiki Mogudu and State Rowdy, Raamudu Bheemudu, Agni Parvatam. Raghavendra Rao and A. Kodandarami Reddy

Kannada cinema

Radha has also done quite a number of Kannada films. She acted with veteran Vishnuvardhan and actress Lakshmi in Soubhagya Lakshmi, a remake of the Hindi film Maang Bharo Sajana. This film in turn is a remake of a Telugu movie. She has also done films with Ravichandran. In 1991, she did a Kannada movie Ranachandi with co-actors Sharat Babu, Ramesh Bhat, Mukhyamantri Chandru and Sudhir. In the film, she played a cop with Sharat Babu as her husband and Mukhyamantri Chandru as the villain. She had many stunts and fight sequences in the film. It was a big hit in Kannada & is still remembered by Kannada movie goers.

Malayalam cinema

Radha acted only in a few Malayalam films, the most notable being K. G. George's state award winning film Irakal (1986). Her performance as Nirmala in this film is widely regarded as one of the best in her career. She produced the Malayalam film Ayitham (1987) in which she enacted the lead role. She also played significant roles in Sathyan Anthikad's Revathikkoru Pavakkutty (1986) and P. G. Viswambaran's Innathe Programme (1991).
