After Chennai Super Kings entered the play-offs of the 2012 Indian Premier League, Dhanya took to Twitter to vent her frustration at the elimination of the team she had supported, Royal Challengers Bangalore. Referring to the long-standing Kaveri River water dispute, she tweeted an insult directed at Chennai and subsequently faced backlash on social media for her comments. Dhanya consequently said that she had quit the Tamil film industry and would return the advance of a film she had signed fearing tension, but made a comeback in Tamil with Raja Rani.

She played a cameo in the 2013 Telugu film Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu. Her first venture in a leading role, the Telugu film Chinni Chinni Aasa (2013), was released in November 2013, followed by Gangaraju Gunnam's Chandamama Lo Amrutham.

During the entrance examination, she met Nandini Reddy, who "brainwashed" and convinced her to take up acting.  Nandini Reddy would later turn director and sign Nithya for the lead female role in her first project.

Nithya Menen appeared first on screen as a child artist when she was ten in the Indian English language film, The Monkey Who Knew Too Much (1998), playing the younger sister to Tabu's character.  The 2008 off-beat film Aakasha Gopuram, directed by National Film Award-winning director K. P. Kumaran, marked her debut in a leading role, in which she was paired with Mohanlal. She was in the midst of her 12th class exams when she was offered the role, after Mohanlal had spotted her on the front cover of a tourism magazine.

Her performance was well received, with critics writing that she shows "sparkle in her debut venture" and "makes her entry in an impressive role", though the film, based on the Norwegian play The Master Builder, got mixed reviews and was a financial failure.  She next made her Kannada debut with the film Josh. She essayed a supporting role in the film, which received rave reviews, and became a commercial success as well, with her performance garnering her a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category at the 57th Filmfare Awards South.

In 2011, her first release was Nandini Reddy's romantic comedy Ala Modalaindi, which was Nithya's maiden Telugu venture as well.  The film opened to favorable reviews by critics and turned out to become a sleeper hit, while Nithya received critical praise for her performance. Idlebrain's Jeevi in his review cited that she "epitomized Nitya character with her fabulous performance", "looks beautiful in all kinds of dresses" and was "the best debut in recent years of Telugu cinema after Samantha in YMC", while another critic wrote that she was a "charming find" and "...quite the Genelia replacement that our cinema so badly needs right now." She eventually won the Nandi Award for Best Actress for her performance.

Further more, she also sang two songs for the soundtrack album of the film, tuned by Kalyani Malik.  Nandini Reddy, later, went on to describe Nithya as "the discovery of the decade".  Following Ala Modalaindi, she starred in Santosh Sivan's historical fiction Urumi as part of an ensemble cast.

She portrayed a Chirakkal princess named Bala, playing the love interest of Prabhu Deva's character, which gained positive remarks, with a Sify review claiming that she "looks pretty and is a scene stealer".  Nithya quoted that much of her character was based on "Santosh's perception of who I am", with Sivan stating that he had written that role for her and that only she could play it.  She next appeared in ad-filmmaker Jayendra's bilingual venture 180/Nootrenbadhu, made and released in Tamil and Telugu, in which she played a photo journalist named Vidhya.  She described the character as "bubbly, full of life, nosey, wide-eyed and innocent in life" and to be similar to herself.  Later the year, she was seen in Sibi Malayil's Violin in Malayalam and the Gautham Menon-produced Veppam in Tamil.

Her first 2012 release was the Telugu romance film Ishq with Nitin Reddy. She acted in Karmayogi, a Malayalam adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet. For the Kannada film Aidondla Aidu she had sung and also choreographed one of the songs, titled "Payasa".  She was seen in two Malayalam projects, T. K. Rajeev Kumar's Thalsamayam Oru Penkutty, in which she portrayed a village woman whose daily life is filmed and broadcast as a reality show for a month, and Ustad Hotel directed by Anwar Rasheed.

In 2013, she starred in three Telugu films, Okkadine, Jabardasth and Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde. She played a character with two shades in Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde and she dubbed for her as well as for the character of her co-star Isha Talwar.  She also signed a film of director Cheran in which she is going to pair up with Sharwanand.

After graduating as an engineering student from the CMRIT College, Bangalore, she went on to work at the software company Infosys for a year. She quit the job to pursue an acting career; when she was offered a role, she first joined actor Anupam Kher's acting school, Actor Prepares and took a crash course.

Smitha was first signed on for a role in the film Akasha Gange by Dinesh Baboo, however as the film got delayed, several films she had signed later, including Kallarali Hoovagi, Sixer, Mathad Mathadu Mallige and Avva released before. Among her early releases, the Kavita Lankesh-directed Avva remains her most notable. The film particularly made headlines for a kissing scene featuring her and her co-star Duniya Vijay. Her performance in the film earned her the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. Although completed in July 2006, Akasha Gange released only in July 2008 and eventually became her sixth release. As she got no offers in Kannada cinema subsequently, she moved on to work in the Tamil film industry. Porkkalam directed by newcomer Bandi Sarojkumar was her first Tamil film, which was panned by critics upon release.

Smitha then changed her screen name to Niveditha, according to numerology as advised by her well-wishers, when she did not receive the offers she was looking for. The first release after her name change was her second Tamil film Kathai (2010). During the period, she had reportedly bagged a lead role in National Film Award-winning director Bala's Avan Ivan; however the character was eventually portrayed by Madhu Shalini. 9 To 12 (2011) starring Kishore who she previously had co-starred with in Porkkalam, became her first release in Kannada after Akasha Gange in 2008; it opened to negative reception. Her first release in 2012 saw her enacting the title role, a Lambani girl, in Parie, based on the award-winning Kannada novel Bharadwaj. Her next release was Kiladi Kitty alongside Srinagar Kitty and Haripriya, with Niveditha lamenting after the release that her role had been cut short. Her upcoming films include Nimbe Huli, Gowri Puthra and the long-delayed Dheena.

In spite of the film's poor box office returns, Radhika's performance as Gowri in Tayi Illada Tabbali won her the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress. Due to the successive failures of her Kannada films, Radhika began to work in Tamil cinema subsequently, acting in five Tamil films in quick succession. Her maiden Tamil film was S. P. Jananathan's award-winning debut directorial Iyarkai (2003). The Hindu in its review noted that Kutty Radhika as the "impulsive, immature and obdurate Nancy looks just right for the role".Three of her four releases in 2005—Rishi, Masala and Auto Shankar—featured her alongside another lead female character. Her final release of 2005 saw her collaborating with the Tavarige Baa Tangi team, with Shivrajkumar and Radhika again playing the elder brother and younger sister, respectively.

The following year, she was again seen in five Kannada films and one Tamil film, Ulla Kadathal that remains her last Tamil release. On her performance in Hatavadi, Rediff.com's critic R. G. Vijayasarathy wrote, "Though this is essentially a Ravichandran film, it is to Radhika's credit that she stands up to a superb performance. Her emotions are perfect and she is presented very well on screen". After the long-delayed devotional film Navashakthi Vaibhava (2008) that featured her as a goddess alongside eight other lead actresses she went on a 5-year hiatus.

Radhika has also worked as a film distributor and producer. She had acquired the distribution rights of her own film Anatharu (2007), co-starring Upendra and Darshan. In 2008, she bought the rights of her film Ishwar, which was launched in 2007 as Narasimha. and revived it, although she was unsuccessful in releasing it. She later established a production studio named Shamika Enterprises, named after her daughter, and produced the film Lucky starring Ramya.

In 2013, she made a comeback to acting with Sweety Nanna Jodi which she also produced. With regards to her performance, Sify stated, "Radhika...is a treat to watch and has given a brilliant performance" while Rediff wrote, "Radhika looks ravishing and comes as a surprise for those who have watched her earlier films". Her Telugu mythological film, Avataram by Kodi Ramakrishna released in 2014.

Radhika reportedly married Ratan Kumar at the Sri Durga Parameshwari Temple, Kateel on 26 November 2000. Her sensitive portrayal of the youngest daughter of the protagonist couple (Suhasini and Vishnuvardhan) earned her much accolade, though the length of the role was not very long.

Thanishka made her foray into mainstream commercial cinema in 2007 with Savi Savi Nenapu, where she played a heart transplant patient who has received the heart of the protagonist's dead wife. Her displeasure with the film's producers for not including her in any of the publicity material was much publicized in the Kannada film press. However, much of the controversy was swept under the rug as the film took off and her performance as the damaged second heroine who gets a new lease on life was received with much praise from critics and audiences alike. She followed it up with a guest appearance in Ee Preethi Yeke Bhoomi Melide, the much-anticipated acting debut of director Prem. However, as the film severely disappointed at the box office, her performance went largely unnoticed.

Thanishka got another break when she starred opposite Ganesh in his 2008 blockbuster Aramane. In this film, Tejaswini portrayed a small-town girl who tries to play matchmaker between a photographer, Arun (played by Ganesh) and her own sister (played by Roma), eventually falling for Arun herself. Thanishka's depiction of the mischievous, but lovable "Neeta", who suffers silently through heartbreak had audiences in tears, and won her many favorable reviews. Her character's delicate lisp and obscure dialect of Kannada became a fashionable speaking pattern for teenage girls to emulate. Tejaswini alleged that both the film's director (Nagashekhar) and producer (K. Manju) hid from her the fact that her character does not end up with the hero in the end. She claimed she was only informed after several days of filming had passed, and had originally signed the film with the understanding that Neeta marries Arun. Due to Thanishka's family's friendship with K. Manju, she was discouraged from taking the issue to the media. The industry felt that she was being very arrogant, considering she is still a newcomer. However, many industry insiders suspected her displeasure when Thanishka did not mention Aramane in some of her interviews and conspicuously did not attend either the soundtrack release, the film's premiere, or the 50-day celebration party. Her ire and arrogance appeared to have cooled off by the time Aramane had completed a 100-day run however, and Thanishka finally appeared at the celebration party, and accepted the Producers' trophies.

Thanishka then appeared in E-Preeti, directed by Indian-American filmmaker Priyabharati Joshi, and co-starring Diganth. Incidentally, Priyabharati had also launched Tejaswini's Aramane co-star Ganesh in his first film, Guttu.
