Ramesh Vinayakam is an Indian music composer and singer.

Ramesh Vinayakam was born Ramasubramaniam to Tamil parents Vinayakam and Valli. He went to A. M. Jain College and later graduated in Commerce from the University of Madras. He learned Carnatic from Rukmini Ramani and Western classical music from Jacob John and completed his studies at the Trinity College, London with a diploma. Vinayakam said that his ambition was to become a composer but he faced opposition from his parents and he instead took up a job as a manager in his father\'s friend\'s firm. At the office, he would continue writing pieces of music and following an incident that he considers as the turning point, he decided to pursue his dream. However, he was vainly seeking work and trying for a break, until a friend introduced him to S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, who heard his work and hired him as a \"track singer\".
