After Maattrraan, director K. V. Anand joined hands again with AGS Entertainment for his next directorial venture. The film, which was untitled then, has Dhanush in the lead. Though it was rumoured to be titled as Thaara Thappatta Ready, it was later dismissed by the director. As with most K. V. Anand films, Harris Jayaraj was once again signed to compose the musical score. While Anand was on the lookout for a newcomer to play the female lead, Harris Jayaraj began working on the music.
Alia Bhatt was rumoured to be playing the lead. Amyra Dastur, a model who made her film debut in Issaq was later cast against Dhanush. The film, a romantic entertainer laced with action was titled Anegan, meaning “the man with many shadows”, according to classic Tamil poet Manikkavacakar.
Apart from Dhanush and Amyra Dastur in the lead, the cast comprises veteran Karthik, Ashish Vidyarthi, Atul Kulkarni and Jagan. Karthik is said to be playing the role of a love guru to Dhanush, following a similar role portrayed by Santhanam in Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru. The technical crew consists of cinematography by Om Prakash, editing by Anthony, action by Kanal Kannan and the dialogues by Subha.
The film will be shot across exotic locations such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Bolivia among many other countries. The film gets on floor on 2 September 2013 at Puducherry. Amyra was asked to see Tamil films in preparation for her role.
