Following the success of Nedunchaalai (2014), director N. Krishna revealed in July 2014 that he had begun work on a romantic comedy film titled Maane Thaene Paeye featuring Aari again in the lead role. Keerthi Suresh was signed on to play the lead actress in the film, but opted out after she received offers to be a part of bigger films. Subsequently Bengali actress Subhasree Ganguly replaced her, making her debut in Tamil films. Daniel Balaji was also added to the cast in November 2014.
