Regina Cassandra is an Indian film actress appearing in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films. Her recent Tamil film Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga was a big hit. She is best known for her roles in the Telugu films Shiva Manasulo Shruti and Routine Love Story.

Regina started anchoring when she was four for Splash, a kids' channel and then moved on to work in commercials. Aged 14, she shot for her first film, Kanda Naal Mudhal directed by V. Priya, which also starred Prasanna, Laila and Karthik Kumar. She then appeared alongside fellow newcomer Yogi in Azhagiya Asura, which won good reviews. However the film's low-key release meant that the film failed to gain attention, so she took time out from films and then went on to graduate in psychology from Women's Christian College, Chennai and Regina took another year off before taking a final call on joining movies.During her break she also acted in short films, most notably Balaji Mohan's Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi alongside Adith Arun, which was later made into a feature film in 2012 under the same name. She also acted in short films Kaanal Neer, Saturday and a few more.

Regina was next seen in the  Suryakaanti by director Chaitanya of Aa Dinagalu fame. The film featured her alongside actor Chetan, and as she could not speak Kannada, she was told to act out scenes in English and add Kannada to it.The film won good reviews and performed moderately at the box office. It was announced that she would feature in the Tamil film Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey alongside Adith Arun, but the film was eventually delayed and then restarted with a fresh cast.

In 2012, she appeared in Shiva Manasulo Shruti by Tatineni Sathya, which was a remake of the 2009 Tamil film Siva Manasula Sakthi. She was next seen in the Telugu romantic-comedy, Routine Love Story, alongside Sundeep Kishan, which she signed even before her first release in Telugu. Both films were well received by the audience. She finished acting in the Tamil film Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga, as one of the two lead actresses, by Pasanga famous director Pandiaraj. She is working opposite Nara Rohith under the direction of Tatineni Satya in Shankara, and she has also bagged the female lead role opposite Sai Dharam Tej in his upcoming film to be directed AS Ravi Kumar Chowdary. Apart from these two films, Regina is also working on Prakash Raj's Tamil-Telugu bilingual Un Samayal Arayil (Vulavacharu Biryani in Telugu), and Kotha Janta directed by Maruthi.

Lakshmi was born and brought up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to veteran Telugu film maker Yaragudipati Varada Rao, Andhra Pradesh, whose films dealt with important social issues.Her mother Kumari Rukhmini was a Tamil actress, whose mother Nungambakkam Janaki was also an actress.

Lakshmi was fifteen when she started acting in films. Her first film was Jeevanamsam, a Tamil film released in 1968. The same year she entered Telugu cinema through Bandhavyalu.

She established herself as a successful and popular actress in South India in the 1970s acting in all four South Indian languages: Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. Lakshmi rose to fame from her First Malayalam movieChattakari (1974) which won her Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress. movie Chattakari has the distinction of being the first Malayalam film to run continuously for 40 weeks in a Bangalore theatre.Chattakari (1974) was remade in Hindi as Julie (1975) and in Telugu as Miss Julie Prema Katha (1975). In addition to a Filmfare Best Actress Award, she also won the Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards for the "most outstanding work of the year", for her work in Julie. She is a versatile actress with a glamorous touch. In the Telugu film Panthulamma, she is credited with giving one of her best performances.

After the success of her debut Malayalam film Chattakari, she starred in Many Superhit Films in Malayalam. Her Performance in Chalanum & Mohiniyottam fetched her Filmfare Awards for Best Actress. She has acted in many successful films paired with Nithya Haritha Nayakan (Evergreen Hero) Prem Nazir, also Mohan Sharma, MG Soman, Kamal Hassan,Mammooty, Mohanlal to name a few.

She acted with almost all the leading actors and Stars of South India, but it was her combination with popular actor Anant Nag in 70s and 80s that really struck a chord with the audience. Ananth Nag and Lakshmi are considered one of the all-time greatest pairs in South Indian cinema. They acted together in more than 25 films. Their pair was considered the right recipe for success. Most of the films based on TaRaSu novels based on the life of middle class young couples.

After her success in Julie, however, she didn't star in many Hindi films and instead concentrated on doing more South Indian films. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for Sila Nerangalil Sila Manithargal (1977), becoming one of the first South Indian actresses to win in that category for a Tamil film. When her career as a leading lady ended in the 1980s, she started playing supporting roles as a mother and later as grandmother. She played Aishwarya Rai's grandmother in Jeans (1998) and Kareena Kapoor's grandmother in Hulchul (2004). She has performed in more than 400 films and has also been involved in politics.

Lakshmi took a break from acting to host two talk shows, including the Tamil talk show Achamillai, Achamillai. After the talk shows ended, she returned to acting in films. She is fluent in all four South Indian languages. She hosted a talk show in Kannada for Suvarna channel called [du Kathe Alla Jeevana.[5] She also hosts a talk show in Tamil for Vijay TV called Kadhai Alla Nijam. She also directed a Kannada film Makkala Sainya. she has hosted a talk show in Kannada for Suvarna channel called Neena? Naana?

Currently she is one among the Judge Panel for a Malayalam reality Show "Champions" in Surya TV.

Lakshmi was married thrice. Her first marriage was to Bhaskar in 1969, a Malayali, who worked with an insurance company. It was arranged by her parents when she was seventeen. Her only biological child, Aishwarya, was born in 1971. Later She married Mohan Sharma in 1975 her co-star in Chattakari, Malayalam movie which also ended up in divorce in late 1980's.

While she was shooting En Uyir Kannamma, She and actor-director K.S. Sivachandran fell in love and got married in 1989. She was long associated with Kannada actor Ananth Nag in the 1980s.Lakshmi adopted a baby girl in the year 2000 named Samyuktha.
